Sailboats are propelled by wind, though many of them are equipped with motor engine these days as a back up. The increased distance between the center of gravity and the center of buoyancy provide higher stability compared to boats with a single hull. This allows multi-hulls to have narrower hulls and thus substantially less wave-forming resistance, which in turn results in greater speed without applying more effort.
• Racing Sailboats: As the name suggests are specifically made for racing activities. These are often equipped with modern sailing equipment and gears.
• Cruising Sailboats: Cruising sailboats can be catamarans or mono-hull sailboats. Catamarans are faster and are able to access areas that mono-hull sailboats may not be able to, owing to their deeper drafts.
