Different Boat Types

A yacht is a high end recreational boat. The term designates two rather different classes of watercraft, sailing and power boats. Yachts are different from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose, and it was not until the rise of the steamboat and other types of powerboat that sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury, or recreational vessels.

A sailboat or sailing boat is a boat propelled partly or entirely by sails. The term covers a variety of boats, larger than small vessels such as sailboards and smaller than sailing ships, but distinctions in size are not strictly defined and what constitutes a sailing ship, sailboat, or a smaller vessel (such as a sailboard) varies by region and culture.

A mega yacht generally refers to any yacht (sail or power) above 100 ft (34 m). We consider a mega yacht is a vessel that is generally large, like a yacht over 100 feet in length, and one that meets the high standards of design and construction. Additionally, it is a boat that excells in one or more particular fields, be it the standard of craftsmanship, the ornateness of the interior, or even the sheer size of the project. Often referred to as floating villas, mega boats allow you to travel in absolute comfort. They enable you to reach remote destinations sometimes inaccessible by any other method than a boat.

A commercial vessel is defined by the U.S. Coast Guard as any vessel engaged in commercial trade or that carries passengers for hire. This would exclude pleasure craft or warships. Commercial vessels come in a myriad of sizes and shapes from twenty-foot inflatable dive boats in Hawaii, to 5,000 passenger vessels on the Mississippi River, to 1,000 foot oil tankers and container ships at major ports, to a passenger carrying submarine in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

An inflatable boat is a lightweight boat constructed with its sides and bow made of flexible tubes containing pressurised gas. For smaller boats, the floor and hull beneath it is often flexible. On boats longer than 3 metres/10 feet, the floor often consists of three to five rigid plywood or aluminium sheets fixed between the tubes but not joined rigidly together. Often the transom is rigid, providing a location and structure for mounting an outboard motor.

A pontoon is a flat-bottomed boat or the floats used to support a structure on water. Pontoon boats are also used as small vehicle ferries to cross rivers and lakes in many parts of the world, especially in Africa.

A personal water craft (PWC) is a recreational watercraft that the rider sits or stands on, rather than inside of, as in a boat. Models have an inboard engine driving a pump jet that has a screw-shaped impeller to create thrust for propulsion and steering. They are often referred by the brand names Jet Ski, WaveRunner or Sea-Doo. A jetboat is a boat propelled by a jet of water ejected from the back of the craft. Unlike a powerboat or motorboat that uses a propeller in the water below or behind the boat, a jetboat draws the water from under the boat into a pump-jet inside the boat, then expels it through a nozzle at the stern.

Wakeboard Boats have a device that creates a large wake for a skier (Wakeboarder) to jump the wakes from side to side doing aerial tricks.Generally speaking, wakeboard specific boats are V-Drive boats. This means they are an inboard boat with the engine placed backwards in the rear of the boat.
